Our school - GIMNAZJUM NR 1 w ZAWIERCIU
LOWER - SECONDARY SCHOOL

The school address is 11 Listopada Street in Zawiercie. It was built in 1961 in the campaign called "Thousand schools for the millennium of Poland". It had been a primary school from the first date, but it became a lower-secondary school in 1999 and has been till today. The building is about forty-seven years old. 

Our lower secondary school doesn`t have definite school outline. We learn: Polish, English, German, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Music, Art, Computer Science, Social Studies and PE.
There are sixteen well equipped classrooms: physics classroom, computer classroom, maths classroom, Polish classroom and chemistry one.
 

The great strength of our school is a library which contains over 11000 volumes, perfectly provided with readings, modern literature , popular scientific literature and modern multimedia room . There is an indoor swimming pool in our school which can be used by pupils of our school. There is also a canteen with kitchen linked with a common room equipped with television, DVD, where meals for pupils and teachers are served.
 
Lower - Secondary School Nr 1 in Zawiercie is a school, which focuses on modern education and upbringing. Our classes have got approximately 25 pupils, so the education process and forming proper social needs is much more efficient.
Our school distinguishes among other Polish schools by the involvement in the realization of domestic and foreign projects. For their high level our school received many titles and labels.
Lower Secondary School Number 1 in Zawiercie works on many projects. In 2001 our school obtained titles: "Super Szko?a 2001" ("Super School 2001") and "Szko?a z Klas?".
Quality Label/ European Quality Label: from 2005 to 2008:
• “Holidays and traditions in Europe”,
• “Let's know each other through e – friendship”,
• “The world of geometry”,
• “A postcards From my Town” and “Castles of Europe”.
In 2006/07 we were a laureate in a project: "Obozy zag?ady - Nigdy wi?cej!" ("Extermination Camp - Never again!") .
In last year -2008/2009 our school obtained titles:
• Szko?a Globalna (Global School),
• “Przyjazna Szko?a” 2008 (Friendly school),
• “A Silver Strip” – a program - Singing Poland
• Creative Teacher 2008
• "Innowacyjna Szko?a 2008" ("Innovative School 2008"),
• "Szko?a Stowarzyszona UNESCO" ("Association of Schools in UNESCO").
Students from our school take part in many sports competitions: volleyball, football, badminton, basketball, skiing, ice skating, table tennis. We have won in some volleyball and football championships of Zawiercie, but we are also successful in badminton and cross-country run. All our teachers organize school clubs where we attend like: volleyball, basketball, swimming, chess, badminton. In winter we attend ice skating club. Our strong points are badminton and table tennis.

We cooperate with MOT (Youth Centre of Creative Activity), where the band "Fatamorgana"and the choir "?OO-MOT" work. Lots of our students and graduates develop their talent there. They take singing lessons and perform together with experienced singers in our country and abroad.
